Roland was the eldest of 4 brothers and sisters. He grew up in the Green Bay area but never felt much at home there. Taking care of his siblings became too much of a hassle and his overwhelming sense of pride lead him to leave his home for Milwaukee where he came into a small, yet cheap barge and began his life as a scavenger. He's often called "The Captain" as a joke because his lack of a dedicated crew. He has one mate, Shepherd, a young boy he met wandering the streets of Milwaukee. Other than that, he goes at it alone. He has too much pride to ask for help, but his wanting of money and power lead him to continue on without anyone. When he's able to bring in a big haul he's looked upon highly, however he has trouble competing with the big scavenger barges.

At this junction at his life he has trouble working with others from fear of having to carry them on his back, but with the right experiences and the right companions his mind may change. He's currently hunkered down by his boat his job and his fees to Sullivan's Feet for docking his boat, but moving on to something new that could be prosperous and healthy for him would be a welcomed change. However, Sullivan's Feet may not take too kindly to him skipping out on a deal.
